“Le Défi” (The Challenge): 2019, a key year for bulb recycling awareness-raising

For the 7th consecutive edition, 1st year primary classes to the first year of secondary school classes were able to participate in The Challenge,a free recycling awareness-raising project organised by ecosystem.

This educational project is based on a solidarity mechanism, in partnership with the NGO Electriciens sans frontières.  The challenge validated by teachers on the site are converted into funding missions to supply electricity to schools in poorer countries.

2019 saw the completion of the 6th edition with record numbers: 3,400 classes were registered, i.e. 88,000 students were made aware of the stakes. The participation of these classes has enabled 14 schools in Benin, Bolivia and India to be supplied with electricity. A follow-up mission also took place in Senegal in order to evaluate the benefits gained for people in 2 previous projects and ensure that the installations are maintained.

This success did not diminish in the 2019-2020 edition, launched in the summer, which currently has 115,000 students from 4,500 classes registered for fun and educational activities on bulb recycling.

For this 7th edition (2019-2020) the challenges validated by the classes will enable 7 schools in Madagascar, Laos, Burkina Faso and Guinea to be supplied with electricity. With the first two missions having been completed and the following two are in progress,

2020 will be the year that the project will be revamped with an improved educational kit for raising the awareness of students not only in recycling all electrical and electronic equipment but also in providing an overall view of the circular economy with repair and donations.
